Legendary Columbus jazz musician Arnett Howard will begin a weekly residency at Mozart’s! Starting this Thursday, October 24, the trumpeter will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. each week in the Cafe area, accompanied by our house pianist Mark Werling.

Howard has performed for four decades in and around Central Ohio, backed by various lineups up Columbus musicians. Most notably, he led Arnett Howard’s Creole Funk Band from 1988-2002. Howard specializes in jazz and New Orleans-style street parade music.

There is no cover charge for Arnett Howard’s Thursday performances. Howard will be out of the country for the month of November, and will resume his weekly schedule in December.

It’s been a good year to live in Beechwold. The neighborhood just North of Clintonville has never really been a hub of restaurant activity, but in recent months it’s become the home of both a new Wine Bistro and now Mozart’s.

Mozart’s moved into the new location in the middle of summer, leaving its old digs a few miles south in Clintonville. In making the move, the eatery consolidated its ice cream operation (Vienna Ice) and bakery-slash-cafe under one single palatial roof. The new spot is a stucco and brick stand-alone with a tile roof and fancy arches. It’s a castle on High Street.

Inside, the host (often the owner) greets guests and shows them to tables. In an age of fast-casual dining, it’s an appealingly traditional greeting. The diners are a mixed bag. There are hipsters, old people and families –representative of the neighborhood population.

The dining menu is expansive and interesting. You don’t see lots of schnitzel in local restaurants. While Columbus has lots of Mexican and Asian joints, Mozart’s European offerings are less often seen.

Invest in the Dine Local Movement: Buy A Gift Certificate

New 30% off Discount Gift Certificates Available Today!

Dine Originals Columbus exists to promote and celebrate the value of locally owned restaurants. We believe that the quality of life in Central Ohio is defined, in large measure, the abundance of locally owned restaurants, with an owner at the door, or at the stove, preparing a dining experience that has a one-of-a-kind flavor.

Our member restaurants are small businesses that have weathered an economic downturn unmatched in generations. They have to create their own financial cushions, particularly for the slow season, and they operate on a very thin margin. A broken down dishwasher can erase the profits for a week. So the last thing we want to do is to ask them to “discount” their product.

That is NOT what our gift certificate program is about. The once-a-quarter limited release of gift certificates at 30% off is the vehicle for our members to raise funds for the marketing and promotion of the dine local movement. It is an investment that seeks to reward and thank long standing, and to entice new customers to come in for a meal. We are certain that the best outlay of marketing dollars is the one that seats a customer in one of our chairs and provides the restaurant with the opportunity to turn a consumer into a patron…knowing that the relationship will build from there.

Dine Originals Columbus is a catalyst for the delivery of nourishment, artistry, and heritage to every neighborhood in the City of Columbus.

We invite you to invest in a gift certificate…you’ll enjoy every bite!
