Our History

Dine Originals Columbus has drawn attention to our state capital’s rich, diverse restaurant scene. With forty plus locally owned restaurant members, the group offers varied dining experiences, from quaint and kitschy to red-carpet treatment, and from celebrity chefs and top-rated cuisine to a deli where a visitor, who happened to be the President of the United States, dropped in for lunch.

With its mission statement, Dine Originals Columbus declares its dedication to creating remarkable experiences for visitors by enriching the identity and culture of our city:   Dine Originals Columbus celebrates, supports and promotes the culinary diversity that locally owned and operated member restaurants contribute to the identity and culture of our city. We are committed to strengthening the local economy and enriching our community through education and charitable partnerships.

In order to help visitors and locals understand the array of dining options and the importance of supporting locally owned businesses, the charter members of Dine Originals Columbus launched the organization eleven years ago as a strategic initiative designed  to showcase and to promote Columbus as the region’s premier dining destination.

The Dine Originals Columbus organization includes some of the city’s leading culinary personalities who help to guide the focus and priorities of the program.

Dine Originals Columbus is the resource for the Columbus dining community and visitors who want to sample the city’s culinary offerings. The easy-to-use DineOriginalsColumbus.com website offers unique editorial features, detailed information on member restaurants, plus must-do food and wine events around town.  The group publishes and distributes collateral material that makes navigating the culinary scene manageable, and partners with a broad range of local initiatives to champion the character that one-of-a-kind restaurants add to the smart and open vibe of Columbus.

When Dine Originals Columbus declares it is “strengthening the Columbus economy one bite at a time,” that isn’t hyperbole. We also nourish the community that supports us.  Two examples of this commitment are the annual Taste soiree and our Out on the Town promotion.

There is a reliable warmth and upbeat vibe that happens every single time we gather our 48 member restaurants in one place for our annual tasting event which benefits our charitable partner for the evening, The Buckeye Ranch. The Dine Originals chefs, staff members, and owners create a night to celebrate the perceptive palates of dedicated foodies from throughout the Central Ohio region.

Wikipedia makes the distinction between gourmets and foodies with this “Gourmets simply want to eat the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and personalities surrounding food.”  The event certainly attracts the curious and the passionate; The Taste of Dine Originals event has grown into a sell out bash in three short years.
